What Movies Ruined Our Perception of Relationships?

What Movies Ruined Our Perception of Relationships?
Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams in 'The Notebook'

The Notebook
'The Notebook' has given women such high and unrealistic expectations of men that they will undoubtedly be let down in real life. Ryan Gosling's character Noah spends years performing grand gestures of love to win over his sweetheart Ali.  His over-the-top antics include:      Writing letters every single day     Building a dream home for Ali     Dramatic kisses in the pouring rain

Peeta and Katniss train in 'The Hunger Games'

  The Hunger Games

Even though their early interaction was limited to tossing Katniss a burnt loaf of bread, Peeta shows females that guys should do anything to get the girl. This includes the possibility of giving your life for someone in the death battle known as 'The Hunger Games.'

Adam Sandler stars in 'Just Go with It'

Any Adam Sandler Movie

Any Adam Sandler Movie

  Any Adam Sandler Movie
Adam Sandler has gone through countless movies using wit, charm and a lot of immaturity to unrealistically hook up with co-stars like Jennifer Aniston, Salma Hayek, Jessica Biel, Katie Holmes, Drew Barrymore and Kate Beckinsale. He constantly gives average men false hope that using silly voices and goofing off is the key to getting a girl out of your league.

 Final scene in movie 'Grease'

Grease

 Grease

You're the One that I Want' may be the theme-song of 'Grease', but the only thing that viewers see is Sandy changing completely to get the one she wants. She changes from a likeable, clean-dressed girl to a cigarette smoking, leather-wearing rebel. No matter how catchy the songs are, women should never follow Sandy's actions to please a man - See more at: http://www.chacha.com/gallery/3935/what-movies-ruined-our-perception-of-relationships/37522#sthash.aQqjtUR9.dpuf

Ryan Gosling stars in 'Crazy, Stupid, Love'

  Crazy, Stupid, Love

Let's just call this one the "Ryan Gosling effect." After this hit and others like 'Drive,' many females are looking for one thing in relationships: a Ryan Gosling clone. Many men are doomed to fail at relationships when they don't come close to the expectations that Ryan Gosling has set.  Attributes of a Ryan Gosling clone include:      Smooth talker     Nice Wardrobe     Laid back attitude     Confidence

Julia Roberts and Richard Gere starred in 'Pretty Woman'

  Pretty Woman

Where do you begin with a movie that presents a hooker with a heart of gold? Not only has this movie given false hope for woman looking to move up in society, but it presents an unrealistic view into the world of prostitution as a whole. I suggest watching Charlize Theron in 'Monster' to help level out the playing field.

 The dinner scene in 'Titanic'

 Titanic
Any expectations of a three-day whirlwind love affair should have sunk with the ship while watching 'Titanic.' Not only did Rose fall in love, but she spent the rest of her life living out every fantasy that Jack presented her. In reality, money issues would have caused a major rift between the couple if the ship ever landed in the United States. -

still from 'Sleepless in Seattle'

Sleepless in Seattle  If real life was 'Sleepless in Seattle,' long-distance relationships truly would make the heart grow fonder - especially if you and your one true love have never met face to face. The true love will be even more powerful if you are already engaged to be married to start.

Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook

Crazy, Stupid, Love
Silver Linings Playbook  One depressed person amounts to an unpredictable train wreck on family and friends, but two depressed people serendipitously falling for each other (after the requisite bickering, chasing, shed tears and a breakdown or two) equates to romantic bliss to the benefit of all.

Jerry Maguire and Renee Zellweger in 'Jerry Maguire'

Jerry Maguire  When a brilliant, but egomaniacal, person enters your life while falling on the hardest of times, take a leap of faith and give up your career and any previous financial security. You'll be rewarded in the long run with true love from a redeemed soul who will sweep you and your precocious son off your feet.

Say Anything...  When the times get tougher than ever with your would-be-true love, he is going to pursue you and win over your heart and soul by blasting the perfect song at the exact moment you need it most. He'll play that song in hopelessly romantic fashion with no concern for who else is watching, and you'll run to him as all your troubles disappear.

Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl in 'Knocked Up'

Knocked Up  When your partner is the exact opposite of the ideal you have set for yourself in every crucial manner of personality and lifestyle, having a child together will magically fashion all of your irreconcilable differences into lovable quirks.

 Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth

Bridget Jones's Diary (or Any Rom-Com with a Love Triangle)  In the pursuit of love, there will always be two beautiful people battling for your affection. It'll be a rough go of it on your emotions for a while, because they are both just so darned beautiful and willing to pursue you. Luckily for you, the answer to the heart-wrenching dilemma will reveal itself to you when you realize how big of a jerk the wrong one is, and your (patient) true love welcomes you with open arms for a future of happily ever after.

Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in 'You've Got Mail'

You've Got Mail  As already proven in several other movies on this list, a strong dislike and excessive bickering will inevitably end in discovery that your rival is your true love. This undoubtedly true when you hold on to wholly contradictory beliefs or competing businesses, such as with the frustrating man who manages an outlet for a corporate behemoth and the beautiful woman who runs the struggling independent bookstore. That the stars will align to allow your anoynmous crush (who happens to be your total nemesis) to fall in love with you is only a matter of time.

Natalie Portman as "manic pixie dream girl" in 'Garden State'
Any Movie with a "Manic Pixie Dream Girl" Lover  Somewhat depressed, average-looking guys everywhere can wholeheartedly believe in happily ever after now that "manic pixie dream girls" (i.e. Zooey Deschanel incarnate, 'Garden State,' 'Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,' 'The Perks of Being a Wallflower,' etc.) bring quirky magic, colorful personality, true love, and all the greatest indie tunes into their lives on a routine basis. -

The Notebook

'The Notebook' has given women such high and unrealistic expectations of men that they will undoubtedly be let down in real life. Ryan Gosling's character Noah spends years performing grand gestures of love to win over his sweetheart Ali.

Star Wars: Episode VII Teaser Trailer Featuring Luke Skywalker to Be Released Soon?

Star Wars: Episode VII Teaser Trailer Featuring Luke Skywalker to Be Released Soon?

Star Wars: Episode VII teaser trailer featuring Luke Skywalker rumored to be revealed soon
Star Wars: Episode VII teaser trailer featuring Luke Skywalker rumored to be revealed soon
Star Wars: Episode VII has become a tiring marathon of non-news, as unverified casting reports continue to trickle in along with the occasional far-fetched rumor, and some non-too-exciting technical tidbits. That may all change any minute now, with New York Comic-Con 2013 kicking off this weekend. Various 'insider sources' are once again claiming that the event will be the platform behind a major casting announcement and teaser trailer reveal featuring Luke Skywalker.

We've heard this all before, as Comic-Con 2013 and Disney's D23 showcase came and went without any new revelations at all. We shouldn't get our hopes up about NYCC, as it is the lesser venue, and not as big of a showcase for such an awaited announcement. Then again, a smaller platform might be the perfect place to finally confirm the official cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.

The most trusted info heading into NYCC 2013 comes from Ali Arikan, the chief film critic of Dipnot TV. We've never heard of him before, and he tweets in a language we don't understand, but the uber-fans believe he is a trusted source when it comes to all Star Wars: Episode VII related news.

Here is his Tweet from earlier today.

As you can see, that could say something horrible about all of your mothers and unborn babies. We don't know for sure. But this is how others have transcribed it.

"So here's what I'm hearing about Star Wars: Episode VII. Casting and title announcements are imminent, possibly today or tomorrow. But that's not all. I've heard word that there'll be an announcement trailer/teaser featuring Luke."

Ali Arikan claims this news came from the same source that revealed Benedict Cumberbatch is set to be a Sith Lord, and that Saoirse Ronan was testing for a female villain. The source was also the first to reveal that Ewan McGregor is returning as a force ghost.

If we are in fact getting a teaser trailer with the first casting announcement, it could explain why Mark Hamill has been working out so much lately. His friend, former roommate and the man behind Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund, recently revealed this interesting bit of info,

"Mark now-they've got Mark in the gym, because Mark's coming back as Luke Skywalker. They've got him doing his sit ups."

Is it possible that we will see the first Star Wars: Episode VII footage before the end of the week? Will Disney finally break its long silence on this movie? Or are we all just being set up for more disappointment? Who knows? I'm guessing some of you are even, at this point, saying, "Who cares?"Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015 and stars Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.

Ten Non-Marvel Movie Foes Wolverine Should Fight

wolverine 560x372
James Hewlett / Logan / Wolverine is a tortured character who may be well nigh immortal. Wolverine’s healing factor as well as adamantium claws and skeleton also make him a fearsome warrior. He has tried to cool his anger by training in the martial arts in Japan. He has tried everything in order to control what is essentially his nature. The truth of the matter is that he can’t, because we quite frankly love his nature. The only that we really love more than his nature is pitting Wolverine up against an opponent with a similar nature. Most of the time, this is not really a possibility due to copyrights and people being unwilling to work together. In a speculative realm, we are not really bound by such things. Here are the top ten movie characters that we’d love to see Wolverine throw down with on film.

Khan Noonien Singh (Star Trek)

movies star trek wrath of khan 560x255In any of the versions of Khan, there is one constant, Khan was genetically bred as the height of human ability. In strength, endurance and skill; Khan is simply superior. Wolverine, at his heart, is really just a man who can take an enormous amount of punishment as well as having those neat unbreakable claws made of metal attached to skeletal bone.
The point is that (other than the healing factor) Khan may well be the superior specimen to Wolverine. In that regard, the healing factor for  Logan is really necessary. He would certainly need it with all of the punishment Khan would be willing to dish out. Khan would also being an Ozymandius-level planner making him hard for Wolverine to foil the plot as well as beat the man.

Abraham Lincoln (Vampire Hunter)

abraham lincoln vampire hunter 560x283
Unless there was some sort of temporal displacement, we would be talking about Wolverine as a young boy or a teenager if he was to fight Vampire Hunter Abraham Lincoln at the height of his skills. Logan could be reasonably mistaken for a vampiric young man (especially given his healing power.) This would also be well before the metal was grafted to his bones.
If you put Mr. Howlett as a teenager, then he would be apt for a fight, but Lincoln would almost certainly have an advantage. However, we do know that the metal skeleton’s constant needs actually retards the healing factor to some extent. The constant pressure of keeping Wolverine alive dampens the ability of the healing factor to function. A teenage Wolverine with a healing factor off the charts would have no such worries. Wolverine would also be fighting with the bone claw version. If Logan picked up the nineteenth century war against vampire-kind, then you could also build an awesome steampunkish adventure.

Dorian Gray (Extraordinary Gentlemen)

Dorian Grey 560x294As he tells Mina in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie, they could be at this all day. Unless Wolverine finds the picture, then they could slash each other forever with the exact same results. Wolverine at the turn of the twentieth century would be a young man. He would also have the bone claws and an unchecked healing factor.
Gray would be eternally young as well as having decades to have learned the fine art of fighting in multiple different styles. He would more than likely be able to sustain it, but a relatively untrained Wolverine against an immortal with an equal (if not superior healing factor) would get beaten down pretty badly. This is of course assuming that Gray was able to protect himself against Logan finding the portrait and getting Dorian to look at it.

Agent Smith (The Matrix Trilogy)

agent smith 560x249
A mutant is a genetic anomaly. Basically, powers which we would consider to be ‘superhuman’ is a trait of anomaly in the Matrix. The X-Men would be an anomaly in either world. Wolverine’s ‘healing factor’ would actually mirror the ability of Agents to heal quickly from wounds. Obviously in this setting, Logan would be sought after by both sides. Interestingly, with Wolverine being used to fighting superhuman elements, the Agents would seem like another group of people hunting him. Smith does not respond well to anomalies. Of course, Wolverine would not respond well to him as well. Given a good ripping beserker rage, Wolverine could probably make Smith go away… but not permanently.

Van Helsing

van helsing hugh jackman 560x366
The obvious appeal of including Van Helsing on the list is that Hugh Jackman played both characters. However, there are reports out there that there is a planned re-boot of the Van Helsing franchise with Tom Cruise playing the lead role.
In the movie, Van Helsing’s specialty was killing monsters which were seemingly difficult or nearly impossible to kill. Over the years, Logan may have caught the attention of extreme elements within the Catholic Church as being an ‘abomination to God.’ The movie also hints that (left alone) Van Helsing may be well nigh immortal himself. The danger of Van Helsing is that he could figure out a way in which to permanent incapacitate or kill Wolverine if deemed necessary. It is the ‘if deemed necessary’ which may well determine the outcome of everything in this one.

Snake Plissken (Escape from New York)

iSi3OJKSPNknaxSvjpOa6c38Xgn 560x315Some people heard that he was dead. A few other people heard that he would definitely be taller. The truth of the matter is that Snake Plissken is everything that you would want a legendary tough guy to be. If John Wayne existed in a dystopic future, thy name would be Snake Plissken. If Wolverine existed in the same alternate future that Plissken does, they would be very similar characters. They were both former soldiers who were then screwed over by their own government as a result of their special talents. Ultimately, they would probably team up against whatever forces put them against each other, but the battle between the two beforehand would be absolutely epic. It would probably end in a draw as well as a bit of reasoning and perhaps a beer.

Riddick

riddick 560x321
There is an essential conflict here. What does Riddick do? Riddick kills. What does Wolverine do? Wolverine survives at all costs. There would have to be some sort of temporal displacement in order to get the two characters together. This would be a classic case of irresistible force versus immovable object. You are pitting a man who can kill anything against a person who essentially will not die.
Logan and Riddick also have proven to both hold onto to an odd sense of honor. They are both used to being chased. Neither one is actually above killing, especially when they feel threatened. Wolverine would have to be sent in some official capacity against Riddick. There is the alternate possibility that they could simply find themselves in the same place at the same time. The point is that neither character would need a whole lot of inspiration to fight one another.

Ash (Evil Dead Series)

ash 560x336
Ash is a badass who is more than willing to take punishment. Most of the time, Ash inflicts the punishment upon himself. To get rid of the dead curse, Ash cut off his own hand with a chainsaw. Ash then used the chainsaw as a weapon against the ‘Deadites.’ Ash also killed a whole slew of Lillputian Mini-Ashes in creative fashion and was thrown down into a pit that doubled as a zombie death trap and came out ahead.
Ash is also intelligent to fashion modern weapons using medieval tools. We are not saying that Ash could beat Wolverine. However, Ash could certainly give him a run for his money. The true beauty of the entire meeting (in addition to the fight) would be listening to the two them share one liners. That would simply be the ultimate in badass trash talk.

Snake Eyes (GI Joe)

Snake Eyes 560x281Honestly, this match up would be a 1980s fan boy’s wet dream. After the ninja-palloozas which were The Wolverine and G.I. Joe: Retaliation, the dynamic of a fight between Wolverine and Snake Eyes would be a truly great cinematic moment. Whatever the highest class of  ‘Ninja’ is, then Snake Eyes would definitely be it. Wolverine has trained in as well as fought extensively in Japan. Snake Eyes is used to fighting with as well as against sharp objects. Snake Eyes is also a superior fighter to Wolverine, who would also be apt to lose control where Snake Eyes would not. During one comic book adventure, it was remarked that nothing less than a ‘tactical nuclear weapon’ would stop Snake Eyes from making it through Cobra Island alone. Wolverine is not a tact nuke, but the throw down is something that we would pay five times to see.

Freddy Krueger (Nightmare on Elm Street)

freddy krueger 700x325 560x260In addition to an affection for sharp pointy things, Krueger would honestly be a truly legendary Wolverine villain. In the dream world, the ability to draw fear would depend on an ability to draw from the subconscious. In many cases, this sub conscious is locked even to Logan himself. The psychological torture of Logan would blindside him with events in which he could not even determine whether they really happened.
Krueger can be fought. Obviously, there would be the appeal of the fighting as well as the hand blades. More than that however, Krueger could learn as well as use things against Wolverine that Wolverine does not even know. This was explored briefly in The Uncanny X-men #251 called ‘Fever Dream.’ Wolverine was literally chained to a cross in the shape of an X and had no ability to stop wild visions from his past coming seemingly to life before his eyes. Krueger is the type of opponent who could not only face Wolverine but also have a very real effect on him.

Scarlett Johansson Sexiest Woman Alive?

Scarlett Johansson Sexiest Woman Alive? 5 Sexy Reasons Esquire Named ‘Don Jon’ Actress World’s Hottest Star [PHOTOS & VIDEO]

Scarlett Johansson is a stunner, there's no doubt about that, which is why we weren't totally surprised when the 28-year-old bombshell was dubbed Esquire magazine's "Sexiest Woman Alive" — again!

"I'm the only woman to win twice, right?" the Don Jon actress asked the magazine, referring to when she won the title nearly seven years ago. "You know, I gotta hustle. I'm a 28-year-old woman in the movie business, right? Pretty soon the roles you're offered all become mothers. Then they just sort of stop. I have to hedge against that with work-theater, producing; this thing with Esquire."
But with talent up to the actress' full lips we doubt that Johansson will be out of a job anytime soon! In fact, the actress looks extremely busy according to IMDB.  Her filmography on the movie database suggests ScarJo is booked all the way into 2015, when The Avengers: Age of Ultron is released.

However, a hectic movie career isn't the only thing keeping Johansson busy nowadays. Just recently the blonde beauty got engaged to French journalist Romain Dauriac. "I didn't think I was a jealous person until I started dating my current, my one-and-only," the sexy star revealed about the man who slipped that vintage Art Deco ring on her finger. "I think maybe in the past I didn't have the same kind of investment. Not that I liked my partner less, I just wasn't capable of it or caring that much." For reference, Johansson's former flames include Sean Penn, Jared Leto, and her ex-husband Ryan Reynolds, who the starlet was married to for three years.
"Look, I'm with a Frenchman. I think jealousy comes with the territory," she admitted to Esquire. "But I'd rather be with someone who's a little jealous than someone who's never jealous. There's something a little dead fish about them. A little depressing. It may not make sense, but you need to feel a little. I know, irrational, right?"
But according to the blue-eyed actress, she'll have plenty of time to put jealousy aside seeing as she's taking a month-long vacation with her man. "I'm not going anywhere, which just makes it more of a staycation. There's luxury in being near home. When you spend a lot of time, like I do, just standing around and waiting, or being moved from place to place, every minute gets consumed by something someone else has set up for you," Johansson continued. "And it's not like I'm always in a beautiful place wearing something gorgeous. I've stood around bogs wearing half a million dollars' worth of jewelry, up to my knees in the rot, thinking how much more or less the place smelled like a sewer than it did the day before. And that is not what you'd call a problem exactly; it just wears you out. What I want to do right now is sleep late, read the paper. I've come to see that there's something pretty great about having two hours to read."
We think it's safe to say that Esquire chose the right gal — once again — when it came to representing the world's "Sexiest Woman Alive"! Do you agree with Johansson sporting the crown again? Let us know in the comments section below and check out these seven sexy facts about Johansson proving why she's the world's most coveted babe.
1. She has a serious set of pipes. Did you know that besides being a talented actress ScarJo is also an extremely gifted singer? We've heard her belt out tunes in the chick flick He's Just Not That Into You but it wasn't until Johansson was nominated for an Oscar for her best original song "Before My Time" from the documentary Chasing Ice that we truly noticed how exceptional she truly was.

2. She has great taste in men. Seriously, Johansson knows how to pick them — from bad boy Sean Penn to her intellectual fiancé, ScarJo has always seemed to have high-profile beaus by her side. But the lovely lady's most interesting — and least known — relationship was with her high school sweetheart Jack Antonoff. Yep, that's right, Johansson dated the guitarist from the band Fun.!
3. Guys aren't the only one who swoon over the star. Did you know that Johansson was reportedly the inspiration for Katy Perry's hit song "I Kissed A Girl"? "That's flattering, but my lips are kind of taken," Johansson quipped when she learned she was Perry's muse.

20 Terrible Movies Nicolas Cage Has Starred In

terrible nicolas cage movies

Nicolas Cage’s acting career has got to be one of the biggest enigmas in Hollywood. The man has obvious acting chops, which can be seen in movies such as Leaving Las Vegas (For which he won an Oscar), Adaptation, Face/Off, and Raising Arizona. Yet, for all the talent he appears to posses, Nic is still on good course to be one of the most mocked actors ever.  I don’t know whether to describe him as incredibly silly or incredibly shameless, but the man seems to believe there is no such thing as a bad script (Then again, any script with a 10+ million dollar paycheck attached can’t be that bad, right?), as can be noted with the number of increasingly bad movie roles he has accepted in the last decade. That said, for all of the awfulness Cage has been a part of, most of it has managed to at least be thrown in the “Bad films that make us laugh” pile. In fact, Cage has steadily become more famous thanks to some of his absolute worst roles. So put on your bear suit, put the bunny back in the box, and grab some cake; Here are the 20 Nicolas Cage movies that are certifiably awful.

20. Guarding Tess

guarding-tess-1994

How Bad’s The Film? Cage is tasked with protecting Shirley McClaine’s former First Lady, but finds her utterly repellant. Sort of the way that we found this supposed ‘mystery comedy’ repellant.
How Bad’s The Hair? FBI short. With shades. The shades we can live with.
So-Bad-It’s-Good? More vaguely likeable in an ‘I miss my Gran’ way. The idea’s alright, shame about the execution.

19. Fire Birds
 fire-birds-1990

How Bad’s The Film? One of Cage’s worst. As a member of an elite flight corps, he appears to be either sleepwalking, or attempting to cram a character from an old Western in a ’90s action film. Excruciating.  How Bad’s The Hair? Nowhere near as perfectly coiffed as Tommy Lee Jones’. Let down.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? “Let’s just say it’s the best 77-minute Apache helicopter actioner starring Nicolas Cage I’ve ever seen,” says one Internet reviewer. Take that as you will.

18. Trapped In Paradise
 trapped-in-paradise-1994
How Bad’s The Film? ‘Trapped’ is fitting – that’s exactly how you’ll feel when watching this. Paradise? At almost two hours in length (completely unnecessary), we really think not.  How Bad’s The Hair? Dad hair alert! Style-less and wispy, it’s what you’d expect your fashion-phobic father to sport.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? This can’t even be classed as a comedy. Aren’t they supposed to illicit laughs?

17. The Boy In Blue

 the-boy-in-blue-1986

How Bad’s The Film? Cage plays Ned Hanlan, a 19th Century sculler… Who… successfully uses… the first ‘sliding seat’… Zzzzzzz…  How Bad’s The Hair? On his head, or on his chest? Either way we’re in seriously hairy territory.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Our memory appears to have been wiped (or, alright, we fell asleep), so we couldn’t tell you. Cool title, though.

16. National Treasure: Book Of Secrets

 national-treasure-book-of-secrets-2007

How Bad’s The Film? It’s the film so bad they made it twice! Ridiculously similar to the first film, this haphazard sequel is as derivative as they come. Keep it away from young minds, they deserve better!  How Bad’s The Hair? Sorry, Cage has hair in this one? We were too busy gagging at how bad everything else is to notice.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Indiana Jones is weeping somewhere

15. City Of Angels

city-of-angels-1998-1

How Bad’s The Film? A soppy, drippy, dreary mess that defecates all over the masterful German film it’s based on. “I wanted to create a subliminal essence where you’re not really sure why it’s different or other, but it is,” said Cage. Uh, what?  How Bad’s The Hair? Cropped close, this is how it should be all the time. Not a strand out of place.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? We’d go through a fair amount of adjectives before we got to ‘good’. An entire dictionary of ‘em.

14. Deadfall

deadfall-1993
How Bad’s The Film? Let’s look to Rotten Tomatoes again, who report that this film is 0% fresh. Yes, 0% fresh. Which means it’s essentially 100% rotten. Bad egg.  How Bad’s The Hair? Frankly the best wig we’ve ever seen Cage wearing. They don’t even try to make it look real. The moustache wig’s pretty impressive, too.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? No.

13. Zandalee

 zandalee-1991
How Bad’s The Film? So bad that it completely baffles, even though it’s essentially a simple tale of a woman who embarks on an affair with a manipulative tit.  How Bad’s The Hair? We’re all about the moustache here.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Don’t bother. Clearly the best movie beginning with ‘Zan’ is Zanadu. And don’t let anybody tell you otherwise.

12. National Treasure

 national-treasure-2004
How Bad’s The Film? More daft than anything. Cage attempts to become Indiana Jones as he hunts the globe in a distinctly Da Vini Code-style romp that smacks of trend surfing. It looks desperate. It sounds desperate. It is desperate.  How Bad’s The Hair? Interchangeable with Count Dracula’s. And oddly fluffy.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Not even if you’re a kid.

11. Season Of The Witch

season-of-the-witch
How Bad’s The Film? Not quite bad enough that you’ll wish you were watching The Wicker Man. But bad enough that you’ll wish you were watching Con Air.  How Bad’s The Hair? Nic, Jesus wants his ‘do back.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Nearly, but mainly thanks to Ron Perlman. The man rules.

10. 8MM
8mm-1999
How Bad’s The Film? It’s about Nic Cage watching snuff films. Wait, is this a documentary?  How Bad’s The Hair? That dim projector light makes it difficult to work out, but we’re pretty sure it’s as atrocious as ever.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? “Anything but a pretty picture” reckoned Film4. We’d agree with that.

9. Vampire’s Kiss

 Vampires Kiss
How Bad’s The Film? After roles as a punk and a fast food worker, Cage revealed his inner crazy with this quirky horror flick – and what sublime crazy it is. Yes, this is the film that he scoffed a cockroach for. You can see a love affair with the insane being born before your very eyes.  How Bad’s The Hair? As crazy as the character himself.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? We don’t know, but it does have cult followers who love vampire movies.

8. Gone In 60 Seconds

gone-in-60-seconds-2000
How Bad’s The Film? So bad that Variety condemned it as “perfectly dreadful in every respect”. That’s pretty dire, nuh?  How Bad’s The Hair? Compared to Angelina Jolie’s bleached blonde dreadlocks, it’s a masterclass in making do with what God gave you.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? The car chases are alright, nothing to write home about. We could do without the finger wag. Stupid finger wag.

7. Captain Corelli’s Mandolin

 captain-corelli-s-mandolin-2001
How Bad’s The Film? You know that history thing? The thing that’s generally set down in books because various people have confirmed it to generally be the truth? Director John Madden doesn’t care about it. Which means you shouldn’t care about his film.  How Bad’s The Hair? Tamed like a wild beast. Still nowhere near sexy.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Only with a big bottle of JD. Per person.

6. Bangkok Dangerous
 bangkok-dangerous-2008

How Bad’s The Film? It’s at 9% rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 92 reviews. It’s fair to say that this tale of a hitman who falls in love is way past its sell by date.  How Bad’s The Hair? Are they trying to make him look all Oriental on purpose? Or is it just us?  So-Bad-It’s-Good? It’s not Hitman, which has to count for something. Still dire stuff, though.

5. Next

next-2007

How Bad’s The Film? No excuses here for Nic, who also produced this trash. The script’s as hole-y as the Pope and equally as contrived. Bad. Bad to the bone.  How Bad’s The Hair? Vaguely normal looking when the wind’s not blowing. Even Nic has a good hair day once in a while.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? So bad it makes you angry, especially when you see the story’s accredited to Philip K. Dick. We bet he’s turning in his cryogenic chamber.

4. Ghost Rider

ghost-rider-2007
ow Bad’s The Film? As bad as whiffy, decade old stilton. Fitting, seeing as that’s what the dialogue is like as well. Histrionic to the extreme, Cage’s attempt to adapt the beloved comic leaves us severely stunk out.  How Bad’s The Hair? On fire. Uh, literally.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? Not quite, it just makes you wish somebody like Darren Aronofsky had taken it on. Lucky Wolverine 2.

3. Windtalkers

windtalkers-2002

How Bad’s The Film? John Woo bad. So not hideously malformed in a Frankenstein sort of way, just a bit rough and ready in a Mickey Rourke sort of way.  How Bad’s The Hair? Mostly hidden under an army helmet. Probably a good thing.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? It’s basically a poor man’s Saving Private Ryan. With a crap poster. So no.

2. Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance
ghost-rider-spirit-of-vengeanceHow Bad’s The Film? Cage goes no-holds-barred in this second round as Johnny Blaze, even playing the flame-on Rider himself (he didn’t in the first film). The result is a towering, terrifyingly unhinged performance in a movie that is, sadly, not worthy of him.  How Bad’s The Hair? As bad as the first one.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? So bad we don’t want to see a sequel AGAIN.

1. The Wicker Man

the-wicker-man-2006-1
How Bad’s The Film? The kind of bad that makes you wish you’d been born in a dark, cold cave full of vipers with poisonous scorpion-sting tails and burning acid for saliva. Just so you didn’t have to endure this tosh.  How Bad’s The Hair? Pretty respectable. Considering.  So-Bad-It’s-Good? You’re kidding, right?

How Bad’s The Film? A soppy, drippy, dreary mess that defecates all over the masterful German film it’s based on. “I wanted to create a subliminal essence where you’re not really sure why it’s different or other, but it is,” said Cage. Uh, what?
How Bad’s The Hair? Cropped close, this is how it should be all the time. Not a strand out of place.
So-Bad-It’s-Good? We’d go through a fair amount of adjectives before we got to ‘good’. An entire dictionary of ‘em.

Indiana Jones is weeping somewhere.

19. Fire Birds
fire-birds-1990

Cage plays Ned Hanlan, a 19th Century sculler… Who… successfully uses… the first ‘sliding seat’… Zzzzzzz…
How Bad’s The Hair? On his head, or on his chest? Either way we’re in seriously hairy territory.
So-Bad-It’s-Good? Our memory appears to have been wiped (or, alright, we fell asleep), so we couldn’t tell you. Cool title, though.
